Local Industrial Strategy Consultation
Client:
York & North Yorkshire LEP
Study objectives:
• Design and deliver seven facilitated workshops to assist the LEP consult stakeholders on the draft Local Industrial Strategy;
• Ensure each workshop is highly engaging and enables participants to provide detailed feedback on emerging priorities and suggest major intervention areas; and,
• Complete detailed report with key themes from workshops and the implications for the draft Strategy.
We were commissioned to design seven facilitated workshops to gather feedback to inform the Local Industrial Strategy (LIS). We began by analysing the draft LIS and agreeing the topics and target audience for each workshop. We created a series of discussion topics for each workshop to guide the discussion. These included:
"How we boost productivity across all sectors including those typified by lower wages and seasonal work?"
"How can we best minimise the impact of climate change through adaptation and invest in infrastructure that enhances resilience?"
We then designed a detailed workshop guide for each event incorporating a series of facilitated exercises. Each workshop was structured as follows:
• Introduction to topic
• Validation and success measures
• Identifying and ranking opportunities and challenges
• Major interventions for top ranking opportunities and challenges
174 stakeholders attended the events and we wrote up key findings from each session, along with an overall report and a lessons-learned log. We found that there was strong support amongst stakeholders for the LEP's focus on inclusive growth and action on climate change, alongside business productivity.
The LEP issued surveys to participants following the workshops and key findings included:
• 60% of participants said the workshops were highly effective at gathering their insights and opinions, with the remaining 40% said they were effective in this respect; and,
• 100% of respondents said that it was clear how their contribution would be used to inform the Local Industrial Strategy
